"A Victorian distillery re-imagined for the future"

On 19 December 2000 a group of private investors bought the run down Bruichladdich distillery, and took to restoring it to its original Victorian glory, using a pool of skilled artisans to create the finest hand made Islay Whisky in the most natural way possible.

This was to be one of my first live projects after graduating from University, and as the only designer on the team the pressure was on to really get things right. The investors had found some original hand drawn brand marks, and asked us to restore the brand in the same fashion as they were restoring the distillery itself.

With adobe illustrator I took to drawing each brand mark and distillery illustration with the aim they would re live again on the more contemporary freshly designed bottles and tins.

The original collection of bottle releases consisted of bottling of 10 years, 15 years and 20 years.
Each to maintain its on personality on the tin to denote its age.

Along with the product design of the bottling and tins. The Investor group need to re-launch and market to specialists and the exclusive Malt community. A set of tasting notes was also created for a number of releases along with other direct marketing materials. Over the years many special editions were created with the core principles in place, until the distillery was bought by a larger group and re-branded to a modern look and feel.
